weren't we supposed to do this before now?

As with most things, life gets away from you. I know Halloween is like..2 days away & all..and we were totally late to the pumpkin carving game. However, we decided that it will be a great new family tradition to carve our pumpkins on our anniversary from now on! We both know that we will be taking the evening off from work & other activities, so it works out perfect! It is close to the holiday, buttttt at least we will know the pumpkins won't die before Halloween, right?!
We decided to strip sweet Harper Love down to her britches for this event because we figured she would get all gooey in the pumpkin guts, but she surprised us. She hated the insides of the pumpkins & wanted nothing to do with them! Oh well, guess that works out better for us so we don't have to keep chasing her around telling her she'll turn into a pumpkin after she eats the seeds ;).
RJ decided to do a minion & I thought it would be cool to try the whole cookie cutter thing, but it didn't work out as great as I had planned. I did one with just the cookie cutter (the pumpkin on the left), then decided to outline it with a cookie cutter & use a drill to give a cool effect. That one looks better, but I'm not thrilled with my pumpkin overall. Oh well, gives me time to gear up for next year & have a totally awesome pumpkin plan! For now, RJ wins. We left Harpers little one blank because I wasn't sure how easy that would be to carve, and she loved playing with it so this way, she can play with it outside still.

She kept watching what we were doing, and as we were using the spoons to clean out the insides she kept trying to take them from us. Finally, I just let her have my spoon to watch what she did. She was so cute & kept trying to mimic what RJ was doing by taking his spoon!

It was a great night & I'm really happy we are beginning to start out own family traditions now!

linking up below for 100 happy days!

  4. What a cutie pie! We STILL have not carved our pumpkins. Life is so busy! My husband used a drill a few years ago and it really worked well. I'm so glad you linked up with #100HappyDays!

    1. My problem with the drill was that there were pumpkin guts that came out and kind of hid the hole from light! Need to work on that for next year!
